Centaurs 4-H Horse Club
To Visit Sunday Farmers’ Market

Our Farmers’ Market this week features several fun activities for kids and loads of delicious local food:

The Centaurs 4-H horse club will have kid-sized horse jumps, saddles to sit in and horse shoes for children to decorate.

We’re also going to be doing some bubble painting over at our Kids’ Corner. Come join us!

Join certified instructor Lauren Theis during our Farmers’ Market for a series of moderately paced yoga sessions in our tranquil wagon house.

Incorporating meditation, breathing techniques and some gently refreshing yoga flows, this class is suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners. You’ll explore fundamental yoga postures, alignment and chakra balancing. Students should bring their own mat.

Yoga begins at 9 a.m. and lasts about an hour, giving you plenty of time to shop at our Farmers’ Market and grab a tasty breakfast.

“The Wagon House is a beautiful, serene setting for yoga and meditation,” Lauren said. “The space fills with morning light, sounds of the Walnut Brook, and birdsong. We couldn’t ask for a more perfect studio!”

Lauren was trained in 2016 at GLOW yoga studio in Basking Ridge and has been practicing for eight years. For questions, please email her at lauren.theis@gmail.com.

No registration is required. Cost per session is $15.

Product of the Week

June is the time of year you start seeing garlic scapes at our market. This week, you’ll find garlic scapes and garlic scape pesto at the River Lea House stand. Garlic scapes are the flower stalks that spring out of the garlic bulb.  They look a lot like green onions, except the coiled end of the garlic scape resembles a pig’s tail.

Garlic scapes are loaded with nutrition, offering plenty of vitamin C and pro-vitamin A to protect your skin and lungs. They are also loaded with fiber.

Here are some other benefits:

Osteoarthritis protection: Garlic scapes contain allium compounds that protect your body against the breakdown of bone tissue.

Anti-cancer: Those sulphur compounds that give garlic scapes their antioxidant properties also have anti-cancer properties.

Antioxidants: The body’s most powerful antioxidant—glutathione—can be boosted by the sulphur compounds in garlic. Glutathione helps protect our cells against viruses and bacteria.

Oxidative stress: The oil that gives garlic bulbs and scapes their pungent flavor can also help protect the kidneys and liver from oxidative stress.

Blood oxygen levels: Certain components in garlic scapes can keep organs and tissues healthy, while reoxygenating the blood.
