Farmers’ Market to Feature Tomato Tasting Event


Sample a variety of tasty tomatoes, tour the Dvoor Farm house and stock up on lots of delicious wholesome food by visiting our Farmers’ Market Sunday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Here’s what we have lined up for this week:

What’s New

Discover your new favorite tomato or which tomato works best with a BLT or in a salad when we host our first-ever Tomato Tasting event.

We’ll have a special tasting table set up where you can sample beefsteak, brandywine, black velvets, eight to 10 different varieties of cherry tomatoes and much more. Phillips Farms, Comeback Farm, Sandbrook Meadow Farm and Sweet Valley Farms will all be bringing tomatoes for you to sample.

If you missed exploring the museum’s of Hunterdon County last week, you have a second chance! We’ll again be offering tours of the Dvoor Farm house in this “Museums of Hunterdon County” event which is part of the county’s yearlong 300th anniversary celebration. Stop into the Dvoor Farm house between 10 a.m. and noon for free tours of the 1798 vernacular Georgian-style stone house. Dave Harding, director of outreach at the Land Trust and past president of the East Amwell Historical Society, will lead the tours.

Recipe

Tomato Salad with Lemon and Mint

tomato salad with lemon and mintIngredients:
• 1 tablespoon finely grated lemon zest
• 4 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
• 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
• Coarse salt and ground pepper
• 1/4 cup thinly sliced white onion
• 2 pounds assorted plum and cherry tomatoes, coarsely chopped
• 2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves

Preparation:
In a large bowl, whisk together lemon zest, lemon juice, and oil. Season with salt and pepper.

Add onion and tomatoes to bowl. Toss to combine. Season to taste with salt and pepper and sprinkle with mint leaves.
