Noteworthy Market News

We’re welcoming T-Recs Camp for Kids who will lead children on a fun project to build a “Jitters” game — similar to the classic board game Operation — to test reflexes and hand-eye coordination.

Frank Cappelle will guide kids through this hands-on activity in our wagon house from 10 a.m. to noon.. This fun project combines woodworking, a little metal working and a bit of knowledge about electricity to create a game that adults and kids will love.

This activity takes about 25 minutes and is perfect for kids ages 7 to 13. Participants will build this game at their own pace following a simple step-by-step process. This T-Recs Camp program is a great way for children to learn about technology in a fun and creative environment. Don’t miss it!

Produce offerings will likely include tomatoes, peaches, beets, cabbage, carrots, cherry tomatoes, corn on the cob, cucumbers, eggplant, fennel, onions, garlic (including black garlic, Siberian Red and California Early), green peppers, red potatoes and summer squash.

This week, Buy the Farm is featuring a smoked baba ghanoush made with organic eggplants from Sandbrook Meadow Farm. Plus, you will find Buy the Farm’s delicious parsnip hummus made with organic Pennsylvania-grown parsnips — both are a veggie-packed bean-free alternative to hummus. Limited quantities available so come early!

Don’t forget to grab a bite to eat if you get hungry while shopping. There’s plenty of tasty options to choose from: Fired Up Flatbread Co. with pizza made with farm-fresh ingredients, a Craftsman Meal (also featuring ingredients from our local farmers) at Will’s Amazing Vegan Burger. Or maybe some delicious granola from I’m Hungry Truck and Depot, chips and salsa from Buy the Farm or some ice coffee at Fieldstone Coffee Roasters.

We’ll be making firefly pinecones in our kids’ corner. Stop by!

New Vendor Starts Sunday

Cherryville Farms Choose and Cut Christmas Tree Farm, located in Pittstown, joins our Farmers’ Market for the first time this Sunday, offering fresh lavender in a variety of fun products.

The lavender is hand-planted and harvested, dried and ready to be enjoyed in many ways. They offer sachets, dried bouquets, decorative pieces ideal for use at special events, gifts, or to simply adorn your home.

The scent of the lavender flower is known to promote tranquility and calmness.

Cherryville Farms will also offer potted spruce trees that are about 2 to 2 1/2 feet tall.

This week, our Land Trust Special once again lets you save $1 off a $5 dollar purchase from one vendor. All Land Trust Supporters should stop by our booth for their coupon before shopping.


Yoga and the sweet sounds of nature combine to create a wonderful hour in our wagon house. Join certified instructor Lauren Theis at 8:30 a.m. for a yoga session that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.  Cost is $15; please bring a mat.

Product of the Week

You can bring a bag of summer sunshine home with you by picking up some peaches at our market. Fresh Jersey peaches provide a relief from hypokalemia, cancer, obesity, cholesterol, blood stasis, and neurodegenerative diseases. It helps in eye care, skin care, maintaining healthy nervous system, bones, and teeth. It has anti-aging properties and also helps in detoxification, as well as improving digestion and cellular health. It has essential nutrients and antioxidants which are valuable during pregnancy, and it helps in strengthening the immune system as well. That sounds peachy keen to us!

Speaking of peachy, here’s is a delicious summer recipe — and you can find just about all the ingredients at our market!

Chicken with Peach-Cucumber Salsa

What You’ll Need:

1-1/2 cups chopped peeled fresh peaches (about 2 medium)
3/4 cup chopped cucumber
4 tablespoons peach preserves, divided
3 tablespoons finely chopped red onion
1 teaspoon minced fresh mint
3/4 teaspoon salt, divided
4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (6 ounces each)
1/4 teaspoon pepper

What To Do:

— For salsa, in a small bowl, combine peaches, cucumber, 2 tablespoons preserves, onion, mint and 1/4 teaspoon salt.

— Sprinkle chicken with pepper and remaining salt. On a lightly greased grill rack, grill chicken, covered, over medium heat 5 minutes. Turn; grill 7-9 minutes longer or until a thermometer reads 165°, brushing tops occasionally with remaining preserves. Serve with salsa.

Serves 4.

Some Like It Hot isn’t just a classic Jack Lemon/Tony Curtis/Marilyn Monroe film — it’s also a pretty cool band! They perform Gypsy Jazz based on the legacy of the great Gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhardt. Their music combines the beauty and sophistication of early 20th century Europe, with the creativity, drive and excitement of American jazz. The band is comprised of  Alex E. Soudah, guitar; Colin Ryan, rhythm guitar; and Jerry D’Anna, upright bass.
